Felipe Rettore Andreis, Brazil

Felipe Rettore Andreis received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, in 2016, and his Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2018.

Felipe’s project investigated, in a large animal model (i.e., pig), how novel peripheral nerve interfaces can be used to ensure probing of the nociceptive pathways in animal experiments. In addition, cortical pathways were investigated to understand the contribution of nociceptive and non-nociceptive fibres in brain activity. The results may guide more effective methods for investigating pain research in an acute setting. Moreover, using a large animal model of pain may increase the efficacy of the translational animal models to understand pain processing.

Felipe successfully defended his PhD on 17 June 2022.
